The Thessaloniki Museum of Cinema is housed in a landmark warehouse on the first wharf of the port of Thessaloniki, at the end of the old avenue along the waterfront, not far away from Aristotelous Square in the center of the city. The warehouse covers an approximate area of 1.100 m2, and was built in 1910 along with the port?s former customs house in line with plans drawn up by Eli Modiano, the famous architect, and is characteristic of the style of industrial architectural that dominated the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. This building, along with other industrial facilities of the same period on the first wharf, have obtained National Historic site status and are protected by a decision made by the Ministry of Culture on June 16, 1971.


The remodeling of the storehouse took place during 1997, Thessaloniki?s year as Cultural Capital of Europe, after architects had drawn up plans which respected the character of the building and exploited its potential to the benefit of the newly founded Museum of Cinema.
